French box office: even Nakache and Toledano can’t do anything against Mario and Luigi

If their last film, Juste une Illusion, got off to a good start, Super Mario Galaxy remains at the top of the ranking, and has already passed 4 million spectators.

And 4 million for Nintendo’s plumbers.

With more than 900,000 entries in the fourth week, Super Mario Galaxy the Movie still displays fantastic attendance, with a decline limited to 25%, boosted by the current school holidays and a combination expanded to 1,073 copies. Illumination’s animated film is a hit as expected and has already exceeded 4 million admissions in France. At this rate, he should be able to double the Marsupilami by Philippe Lacheau, the current number 1 of 2026, which stopped jumping after 6 million entries. It remains to be seen whether Mario and Luigi will have enough mushrooms to pass the 7.3 million of the first film (in 2023).

Waiting for, Super Mario Galaxy remains well at the top of the French box office this week, despite competition from another very popular duo: Nakache and Toledano. Their new comedy, Just an Illusiongot off to a good start, attracting more than 600,000 curious people to 665 cinemas (including previews). A launch similar to that of Exceptionalin 2019 (which ended up with 2 million admissions), and significantly higher than their last film, A difficult year in 2023 (400,000 entries, 800,000 at the end of the course). On the other hand, Just an Illusion starts quite far from the big boxes of the pair: The meaning of the party had made 800,000 fans dance since its launch in 2017 (3 million upon arrival) and Untouchables already had a huge score of 2 million entries after one week in 2011 (19 million at the end of the day).

Among the other new features, it is Fight by Julien Royal (the son of François Hollande) who took the podium and brought together 200,000 curious people on 291 copies. It does better than another new release of the week, the American horror film The Mummy Awakenswhich has 150,000 spectators.

Finally, the good surprise of the moment is called Compostela. The personal quest film by Alexandra Lamy attracts another 177,000 admissions on 915 prints for its third week (-32%) and has already passed 800,000 spectators, with a real chance of ending up a millionaire. Which surely won’t do Cocorico 2. The continuation of the identity adventures of Christian Clavier and Didier Bourdon only reached 450,000 fans after two weeks (in a large number of 650 cinemas), when the first opus already had 1 million at the same time (to end up at 2 million).
