Disney unveils a new cartoon mixing football and fantasy: Dragon Striker trailer
A spectacular new animated series produced by a French studio.
As the Football World Cup approaches, Disney is already releasing its new animated series combining football, magic and dragons.
The firm has unveiled the first trailer for Dragon Striker, a sports fantasy series with strong Japanese influences, developed by the French studio La Chouette Compagnie, based in Montreuil (see below).
The 11 episodes will be broadcast from June 9 on Disney XD then available the next day on Disney+ in France. Before that, a series of mini-episodes entitled Dragon Striker: Meet The Players will be uploaded on May 13 on YouTube and Disney+, to familiarize yourself with these characters with spectacular powers.
The series takes place in a universe where sport and magic become one. We follow Key, a young farm boy who discovers that he has an exceptional talent… and could well be the legendary “Dragon Striker”. Sent to Kal Asterock, a school reserved for students with extraordinary powers, he joins the outsider team led by guardian Ssyelle to challenge the champions of the establishment. But between the dragon that lies dormant within him, buried secrets and an ancient threat ready to resurface, the adventure quickly goes beyond the simple framework of football.
Visually, the series mixes European fantasy aesthetics and inspirations from Japanese animation, with a tone that is as reminiscent of sports shōnen as it is of great fantasy adventure stories. In this universe, players will have various superpowers, in the vein of a game like Mario Strikers.
At the head of the project are Sylvain Dos Santos and Charles Lefebvre, creators of the series, as well as Paul McKeown on the screenplay.
