Pour le Plaisir gets off to a pleasing start at the French box office

Reem Kherici’s new comedy has a solid first day, as does What Is Love. The two French films do better than Mortal Kombat II.

Two French comedies took over the admissions this Wednesday, ahead of an American blockbuster.

For pleasurethe new film by Reem Kherici had a very good launch with almost 50,000 cumulative admissions in 454 theaters at the end of its first day (including 17,500 previews). The first feature film distributed by Studio TF1 takes the lead among new releases but does less well than the director’s previous comedy. Alexandra Lamy and François Cluzet are ahead of Mélanie Thierry, Laure Calamy and Vincent Macaigne. The other feel good comedy of the week, What is love? takes second place. Fabien Gorgeart’s film has received more than 30,000 admissions in 445 cinemas in France (AVP included).

The two tricolor films do better than Mortal Kombat II. The video game adaptation attracted 15,057 admissions in 387 cinemas. An average score, five years after the release – on VOD – of the first part, already directed by Simon McQuoid.

Note that The Criminalsa British thriller by David Mackenzie, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James, attracted 6,000 spectators in 250 theaters.
