Toy Story 5 or Minions 3: who benefited the most from the Fête du Cinéma?

The 2026 edition of the pricing operation has, like every year, boosted attendance and the French box office. And if Pixar emerges as the big winner, De Gaulle also took advantage of the Festival…

Old toys are always popular!

For the second consecutive week, Toy Story 5 dominates the French box office. Woody, Buzz and their friends again attracted 1.064 million spectators in the second week, a slight increase of 4%, driven by the Fête du Cinéma, organized from Sunday June 28 to Wednesday July 1, 2026. The new Pixar film has already exceeded 2 million admissions.

A successful operation for the studio, even if the score remains behind compared to Toy Story 4which already totaled 3 million admissions after two weeks in 2019, before ending its career with 4.5 million spectators.

In front, Minions 3the main novelty of the week, must settle for second place. Despite the Fête du Cinéma effect, the film did not cross the million admissions mark and opened with 970,000 spectators. This is the second weakest launch of the franchise in France. We have to go back to the very first Despicable Mein 2010, to find a first week under one million entries. For comparison, Minions 2: Once upon a time Gru had opened to 1.4 million entries, while the first The Minions exceeded 2 million upon its launch.

Pierre Coffin’s new film therefore did not take full advantage of the pricing operation to boost its launch. But with the whole summer ahead of him, he retains enormous potential with families.

The other big winner of this 2026 Cinema Festival is undoubtedly called De Gaulle. The diptych created by Antonin Baudry has found a new lease of life by occupying third and fourth places in the ranking. The Battle of De Gaulle: The Iron Age saw its attendance jump by 60%, garnered nearly 450,000 additional admissions and well over the million spectator mark. At the same time, The Battle of De Gaulle: I write your name signs a solid start with more than 400,000 admissions for its first days in theaters. Excellent news for Pathé, which has invested heavily in this historical fresco dedicated to the General.

Note also that Disclosure Day also took advantage of the annual operation to refine its final score in France. Steven Spielberg’s latest science fiction creation will be a millionaire. The film boosted its attendance with nearly 300,000 new entries and now has 960,000 spectators here after three weeks of release.

On the other hand, there is disappointment for The Whims of the Child King. The comedy by Artus and Franck Dubosc, who revisit the figures of Cyrano and d’Artagnan, only attracted 137,000 curious people for its first week of operation, despite being released in 479 theaters and the Fête du Cinéma effect…
