Peter Jackson’s next film should be… the sequel to Tintin

Fifteen years after Steven Spielberg’s first part, the sequel to The Adventures of Tintin is finally on track.

Tintin fans can finally regain hope.

Awaited for almost fifteen years, the continuation of Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn finally seems to be coming to fruition.

Interviewed by Gold Derby, director and screenwriter Peter Jackson gave very encouraging news about the project, revealing in particular that, this time, the script is indeed finished:

Fran (Walsh) and I wrote the script for the next film Tintin. Fifteen years ago, Steven Spielberg directed the first film and I produced it. The idea was that I would go straight to the second film, reversing the roles: I would direct it and Steven would produce it. Unfortunately, it took us fifteen years to get here…”

The New Zealand filmmaker wants to see the glass half full and assures that this feature film will still be his next stint behind the camera:

But it’s a timeless story. So no matter how much time passes… We just finished the scenario. So the next film I’m going to direct will probably be this Tintin sequel!

When it was released in 2011, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn had not met with the success hoped for in the United States, with only $77 million in revenue. On the other hand, the film largely compensated internationally to reach nearly $300 million at the worldwide box office, while receiving a generally positive critical reception.

If everything goes as planned, the return of Tintin could therefore mark Peter Jackson’s great return to directing a feature-length fiction film, more than a decade later. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
