The Hit Anime Sakamoto Days will be adapted in a live-action film in 2026

The Japanese series of Netflix follows a former assassin having retired, but forced to plunge into the world of wage killers.

The famous anime Sakamoto Days, broadcast on the streaming platform, will be entitled to an adaptation in film and live-action.

While the first season of the anime, adapted from the manga by Yuta Suzuki, will conclude on September 23, this film is scheduled for 2026 and will be released in Japan during the Golden Week, a strategic period for the cinema outings in the country. It will be produced by Fukuda Yuichi, known for his work on the live-action version of Gintama, and should go out in two parts.

On the casting side, the Japanese actor Meguro Ren, known for his role in the live-action adaptation of the popular My Happy Marriage, should embody Taro Sakamoto, the legendary assassin of history. In a publication on X (ex-Twitter), Toho Movies shared a poster and written: “Live-action adaptation finally launched! Expanded during the Golden Week! The film Sakamoto Days, the legendary Assassin Tarou Sakamoto revealed!”

Anime Sakamoto Days made its debut on Netflix in January 2025 with the first part of season 1, followed by the second part in July. According to the official synopsis, the story follows Sakamoto, a former assassin who retired after falling in love with his wife. He now leads a quiet life, leading a convenience store with his wife and child, until the day when a former colleague resurfaces and forces him to plunge into the ruthless world of the hitmen.
