The ex Spider-Man transforms into a warlord to The Uprising. Focus Features has just revealed the first trailer for this historical drama directed by Paul Greengrass, the filmmaker behind the saga Jason Bourne.
The British actor plays the legendary leader of a popular insurrection against the tyranny of King Richard II. The action takes place in 14th century England, in the aftermath of the Black Death. While the sovereign imposes heavy taxes to finance the Hundred Years’ War, a man decides to lead an army of peasants in order to challenge royal power in a fight for justice… and survival.
Starring alongside Andrew Garfield are Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Katherine Waterston and Woody Norman.
Paul Greengrass, who released last year The Lost Buson Apple, signs the screenplay, direction and production of this film, which marks his return to historical cinema after The Mission (News of the World).
The trailer promises an epic story, mixing major battles, political tensions and popular revolt, in the vein of British historical frescoes.
The Uprising will be released in US theaters on September 11. No French release date has yet been announced.
