Rupert Grint to play Ron Weasley again in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Fifteen years after leaving Hogwarts, Rupert Grint will meet Ron Weasley, this time an adult and a father, on the Broadway stage.

After having played Ron Weasley for eight films, between 2001 and 2011, Rupert Grint will return to his cult character, this time on the stage of Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The 38-year-old British actor will join the cast of the play at the Lyric Theater in New York from February 2 to May 30, 2027. He will play an adult version of Ron, while the plot of The Cursed Child focuses on the new generation of Hogwarts students.

“Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of my life“, said Rupert Grint. “We are both fathers today. It’s both very familiar and completely new.“

For producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, this return goes well beyond simple nostalgia:

“Rupert isn’t just revisiting a role from his past. He continues a journey he started as a child and takes it forward with all the experience gained since the films endedthey explain. According to them, his return creates “a powerful bridge between the story that audiences fell in love with and the story that The Cursed Child tells, around family, legacy and the passage of time.”

This announcement comes after the success of Tom Felton, who recently returned as an adult Draco Malfoy in the play. Its move to Broadway notably led to a significant increase in attendance and revenue from the show.
