Courteney Cox wants to direct Scream 8

She played Gale Weathers during the 7 films in the saga. The former star of Friends would like to step behind the camera for the next episode of the horror saga.

She is the only one to have participated in all Scream from the beginning.

What if Courteney Cox directed Scream 8 ? The idea comes directly from the person concerned. While she presented her second feature film as director, Evil Geniusat the Toronto International Film Festival, the actress explained to Deadline that she would like to take control of the next part of the horrific saga.

“I think I should make it happen, honestly! No one knows more about these films than me.”she assures.

Courteney Cox, however, is quick to pay tribute to those who built the franchise before her:

“Obviously, as much as the creator, Wes Craven, the writers and everyone involved…” But the idea visibly seems to please him: it evokes something “great and fun, and a good communication operation”.

In any case, it’s difficult to deny that Courteney Cox knows Scream on your fingertips. She has played Gale Weathers since Wes Craven’s first film, released in 1996. She was still there in Scream 7opposite Neve Campbell, back in the shoes of Sidney Prescott.

Directed by Kevin Williamson, this seventh episode grossed nearly $208 million worldwide, becoming the part of the saga with the highest box office score behind the original.

But its critical reception has been much more complicated, with only 30% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. This does not prevent Scream 8 to be already in development. Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, two screenwriter sisters, were hired to write this new chapter. Kevin Williamson and Neve Campbell have also reportedly started thinking about ideas that could serve as a starting point for the next film.

While waiting to know if she will actually go behind the camera to Scream 8Courteney Cox therefore continues her career as a director with Evil Genius. This second feature film returns to the famous “pizza bomber” affair, a particularly disturbing criminal story revolving around manipulation, despair and the sometimes blurred line between victim and culprit.
