Resident Evil takes control of the French box office

Zach Cregger’s new film brings down Spider-Man. The new products are struggling.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day lost his first place. At the top of the French box office for seven weeks, the Marvel blockbuster fell to third place in the ranking.

It is resident Evil which starts with a bang and takes the leadership seat with 370,000 admissions for its first week in theaters. A good score for a horror film, but not the best launch for the franchise since the film remains below the first opus from 2002, when Milla Jovovich was still carrying the saga. resident Evil had then started with more than 500,000 tickets sold in the first week, to end its career around a million.

Resident Evil: Afterlife had brought together 402,000 Umbrella Corporation fans in theaters in 2010, before ending with 920,000 admissions.

However, it is much better than Resident Evil: Final Chapter (175,000 admissions in the first week and 330,000 spectators upon arrival in 2017), and above all that the previous reboot, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon Citywhich opened with only 100,000 curious people in 2021, before ending around 200,000 entries, in the midst of a health crisis.

For director Zach Cregger, it’s a new success in perspective after Faintedwhich finished with nearly a million spectators last summer in France, after starting with 280,000 admissions.

Behind the zombies, we find a French comedy with persistent success. In the sixth week, Fallen from the sky attracts another 130,000 new spectators in 822 theaters and crosses the threshold of 2 million tickets sold.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day therefore finds itself on the third step of the podium with 120,000 additional spectators, to accumulate 8.33 million entries at present.

The Odysseyfor its part, remains in the top 5, with 100,000 more entries. Nolan’s film will quietly end its career around 8 million.

The new releases of the week are struggling. If you think wellby Géraldine Nakache, but also The Invitationdespite its glamorous casting, or even The Smugglersworn by Ethan Hawke, none has exceeded the 100,000 admissions mark.

Finally, it can be noted that The Bewitchers 2 is already out of the Top 10! The magical blockbuster from Warner Bros. led by Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, attracts barely 117,000 spectators here. It’s not much. And the sequel risks doing less than the first part of 1998, which finished at 280,000.
