Animals on Netflix: Ben Affleck in the middle of a moral dilemma (review)

Both in front of and behind the camera, Affleck creates a thriller with twists and turns that pulls in all directions.

Officially, this is not a remake. Surely a little embarrassed about it, Ben Affleck refuses to admit in an interview thatAnimals was inspired by Between heaven and hell (1963) by Akira Kurosawa. Why refuse this inheritance? The most probable hypothesis is that the Nanardesque Highest 2 Lowest by Spike Lee, broadcast in 2025 on Apple TV, pulled the rug out from under him. Two rereadings of the same work in one year, that’s starting to add up. Still, Affleck does not intend to directly confront Kurosawa (wise idea) and transposes the action to present day, in Los Angeles: when their son is kidnapped, a candidate for mayor (Ben Affleck) and his wife (Kerry Washington)……..
