Keanu Reeves will reprise the role of John Wick, but…

The actor will reunite with his cult character in a prequel animated film, dedicated to one of the most legendary missions of his past: the Impossible Task.

Keanu Reeves isn’t done with John Wick.

While waiting to know if he will return in the 5th film currently being prepared, the actor has officially signed to lend his voice once again to the famous hitman in an animated feature film produced by Lionsgate. A return which will therefore not take place in live shots, but which will allow us to go back to the origins of the character.

As previously announced, the film will tell the story of the Impossible Task, this supposedly impossible mission that John Wick must accomplish to leave the world of assassins and free himself from his obligations to the Great Table. His goal: to eliminate all his rivals in a single night in order to live with the woman he loves, Helen.

Directing will be Shannon Tindle, an animation veteran best known for Ultraman: Rising And Kubo and the Magic Armor.

The screenplay is by Ryan and Kaz Firpo. The historic producers of the saga are also on board: Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee for Thunder Road, Chad Stahelski for 87Eleven Entertainment, as well as Keanu Reeves himself. No release date has been announced yet.

“The possibilities are endless, both in animation and in the John Wick universe. And no story generates as much anticipation among fans as that of the Impossible Task“, declared Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, in 2025 when the project was announced.

The franchise John Wick has grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office across five films, including the spin-off Ballerina worn by Ana de Armas. And the universe is far from having said its last word: a fifth live action part is in development, as is an independent film dedicated to Caine, the blind assassin played by Donnie Yen. Keanu Reeves will also reprise his role in a video game dedicated to the saga.
