A colorful first trailer for Netflix’s new One Piece animated series

As Eiichirō Oda’s manga continues to break all records, Netflix and studio WIT finally unveil the first images of their animated remake expected in February 2027.

After the global success of the live-action series, season 2 of which was recently broadcast, Netflix is once again tackling the world of One Piece.

The platform has just revealed the first trailer for The One Piece, a brand new animated adaptation of the famous manga by Eiichirō Oda.

Produced by the prestigious WIT Studio, to which we notably owe the first seasons of Attack on Titan, this new series will resume the story from the very beginning, with the founding arc of “East Blue”.

The trailer offers a first look at flamboyant animation, vibrant colors and a much more modern visual style than that of the historic anime broadcast since 1999.

There we find several emblematic moments from the first chapters of the manga: the execution of Gold D. Roger, the moment where Shanks entrusts his famous straw hat to Luffy, or the meeting of the future pirate with Koby and Alvida. The teaser ends with an already cult scene: Monkey D. Luffy using his powers to deliver a gigantic punch to a sea monster.

Unlike the original anime, The One Piece is intended to be a more accessible gateway to the immense saga imagined by Eiichirō Oda. The series will tell the story from the beginning, but without the filler episodes that have punctuated the more than twenty-five years of broadcast of the anime. The first season will have seven episodes with a total duration of approximately 300 minutes and will focus entirely on Luffy’s early adventures and the formation of the Straw Hat crew.

One question remains: was it really necessary to remake One Piece while the original anime is still being broadcast?

We obviously understand the financial stakes and the desire to attract a new generation of spectators intimidated by the more than a thousand episodes already existing. Netflix also justifies this remake by explaining that it “exploits the full potential of modern technologies to offer a vision of Luffy’s adventures that is both familiar and renewed.”

An attractive promise… even if some historical fans still struggle to see the need to remake a series that has become, over twenty-five years of existence, a monument of Japanese animation.

The One Piece will arrive on Netflix in February 2027.
