Not even published in bookstores yet, the novel follows Naomi, convinced that she is living a perfect love story, until the day her husband brutally throws her out.

The Freida McFadden phenomenon continues to sweep through cinemas. While The Maid has just been a hit at the global box office, the French from Studiocanal have got their hands on the next adaptation of the successful author: Divorce.

According to initial information, the psychological thriller was acquired after a battle between several studios, proof that the enthusiasm around McFadden’s universe continues to grow. It must be said that The Maidworn by Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, grossed more than $400 million worldwide, and the sequel, still directed by Paul Feig, is already expected for 2027.

In the process, Studiocanal and Working Title will therefore co-produce Divorcecurrently in early development. It must be said that the novel is not even in bookstores yet (it will be released on May 26). The story is already described as “a sharp thriller where love turns to revenge and survival becomes the most dangerous game.”

We will follow Naomi, convinced that she is living a perfect love story, until the day her husband brutally throws her out. He then hires the best divorce lawyers, empties their bank accounts and starts a new life with a much younger woman. But instead of moving on, Naomi develops an obsession with her ex-husband’s new partner… and little by little discovers secrets that could well put her in danger.

I am delighted to work with the teams at Studiocanal and Working Title to bring The Divorce to the cinema“, Freida McFadden said in a statement. “From the start, they showed incredible enthusiasm and a very strong vision for the project. I can’t wait to see what this turns out to be!

The film will be fully financed by Studiocanal, with Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin overseeing development and production.

For her part, Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal and director of content for the Canal+ group, is already promising a formidable new thriller: “From the first pages, we were captivated. Freida McFadden has the rare talent of plunging readers, and soon viewers, into a false comfort zone before suddenly pulling the rug out from under their feet. “The Divorce” is an ambitious, addictive and terribly effective story.”
