In the end, there can only be one left: after a week particularly rich in quality films, the jury of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival awarded the Feature Film Crystal to Memoir of a Snail. Directed by Australian Adam Elliot (Mary and Max.), this stop-motion drama which had a strong impression when it was screened tells the daily life of Grace Puddle, a solitary collector of ornamental snails who lives in Canberra.
The reverse shot jury prize goes to Life, basicallys by Kristina Dufková, while Flow, the cat who was no longer afraid of water leaves with the public, jury and Gan Foundation prizes.
EOverall, more than 17,400 accredited people from 103 countries visited Annecy this year. “Every year, Annecy Festival welcomes an audience made up of passionate professionals, young, highly motivated students, and a dynamic public with one and the same desire: to meet and experience the magic of animated cinema in cinemas. This year's record participation highlights the vitality of the sector, in a constantly evolving sector. », assures Mickaël Marin, director of the Festival. “ We will continue to encourage existing synergies between the 7th art and other disciplines. We are proud to participate in the dynamism and recognition of animation. But even more, we are proud to see that cinema continues to fill theaters and arouses enthusiasm among all audiences, particularly young people. We are convinced: animated cinema, in all its diversity, contributes to mobilizing audiences in theaters. »
