Backrooms 2: what we already know about the sequel
After a first film that became a box office phenomenon, Backrooms might not stop there. Kane Parsons is already talking about what’s next… but without rushing anything.
The success of the A24 film logically opens the door to a sequel.
Almost 300 million dollars in revenue worldwide, a phenomenon and a director of 20 already a star in Hollywood… Obviously, there will be a Backrooms 2. But when? And how?
Kane Parsons refuses to be locked into one system. Asked by Varietyhe first insists on its original link with YouTube:
“I don’t want to leave YouTube behind”he explains, affirming that he intends to continue creating on the platform where the universe Backrooms saw the light of day. He specifies:
“I absolutely love the work I’ve done there, and I feel creatively accomplished in a way that’s equivalent to what I did with this film. I honestly think it’s relevant, because there are a lot of projects that I could never do anywhere other than YouTube, or outside of a freer internet media space. So I don’t want to limit myself to just one medium, but I think it’s a way of saying that I have something promising right now that I want to exploit with the energy and the positivity surrounding this film.”
Regarding the very nature of the project, he reminds us that nothing is set in stone:
“Backrooms was always intended as a series that goes beyond the limits of this film. In fact, I would say that this film is a first step in moving towards the true essence of the narrative, which has been established online for years. But a version that remains accessible and serves as an entry point. For those who are interested, I have a contract and rights on my side, which means I am absolutely not ready to give up. I’m clearly not done with Backrooms. I’m working on very specific projects, things are being developed and I can’t wait to talk about them, but for now, it still remains a very mysterious world…“
For his part, Deadline confirms that the development of a Backrooms 2 is already underway after the success of the film.
According to the media, Kane Parsons is currently looking for a co-writer to structure the sequel. However, the project remains at a very early stage: no casting, no date, and no official validation for the moment.
