‘I’ve waited 20 years for this call’: Brendan Fraser can’t wait to shoot The Mummy 4
The actor will reunite with Rachel Weisz in this new adventure.
A new movie The Mummy is in preparation, as revealed by the Hollywood press in early November. Brendan Fraser spoke about the project for the first time, speaking to the Associated Press, and he is very excited to get back into the shoes of treasure hunter Rick O’Connell.
Returning to favor in Hollywood in recent years, Fraser received the Oscar for best actor for The Whalein 2023. A return to the forefront which pushed Universal to relaunch The Mummy 4which the star had been calling for for years.
And for the occasion he will reunite with Rachel Weisz, his partner from the first two films, who had refused to participate in the third film (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), filmed in China with Jet Li, where she was replaced by Maria Bello.
“The one I wanted to do was never done. The third was a model of…how can I say this to an AP reporter? NBC owned the rights to broadcast the Olympic Games that year (the 2008 Olympics were held in Beijing, Editor’s note). So they made the connection and we went to China. Working in Shanghai was an incredible experience.
I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good film that stands on its own. We took what we knew how to do with a different team at the helm and we gave everything we had. But the one I wanted to do is the next one. And I waited 20 years for this phone call. It’s time to give the fans what they want.”
This speech from Brendan Fraser confirms that the film is indeed in development, even if Universal has not yet officially communicated on it. The Mummy 4 will be directed by the duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence, known for successfully relaunching the Scream saga.
