Barbie cinematographer wants to work on Taylor Swift’s first movie
“She is extraordinary”, claims Rodrigo Prieto, who has already collaborated with her on her clips.
Rodrigo Prieto has multiplied eclectic experiences since the beginning of his career: he was the chief operator of The 25th hourSpike Lee, 21 Gramsby Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu or by Secret of Brokeback Mountain, by Ang Lee, for which he was nominated for an Oscar. This year, after working on Barbieby Greta Gerwig, and on Killers of the Flower Moon, by Martin Scorsese, he is currently preparing his first film as a director. Just like an artist he knows well, Taylor Swift.
This director of photography has indeed worked on several of his clips, such as “The Man”, “Willow” Or “Cardigan”and when The Wrap interviewed him to talk about Barbie this summer, he didn’t escape a question about their next collaboration. Is he involved in the making of the first achievement of the singer, who is a hit at the moment with her tour?

“Yes, I heard about this project, answers Prieto. I don’t know where he is precisely because I’m 100% focused on my own film, but we both talked about it. I don’t know if I’ll end up working with her again or if someone else will do the photography, but I think she’s great. She’s a complete artist, no doubt, and an excellent director. I must admit that everything I did with her, all her music videos… she is extraordinary. She’s someone who didn’t grow up to be a director, she’s first of all a musician and a singer and she has a wonderful talent for that, but she understands cinema, how to tell a story with a camera, she also manages in all technical aspects. She’s a person I admire a lot so yes, if I have the opportunity to work with her again, I would be delighted.”
We don’t yet know the subject of Taylor Swift’s first film. Simply that it will be an original work, which she wrote, and which she presented to the Searchlight Pictures studio last December. She will only be able to film it once her tour is over, and when the writers’ and actors’ strike is over.
In all, the artist has directed 18 music videos during his career, including the short film “All Too Well”a fifteen-minute version of her self-titled track from 2012, for which she conducted Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Dylan O’Brien (The labyrinth), two years ago.
