Benoît Magimel will be the president of the Jury of the Deauville Festival 2024
The actor from Life is a Long Quiet River, The Pianist and The Passion of Dodin Bouffant will be in charge of presenting the prizes for the official competition of the Normandy gathering.
Back in the spotlight for Benoît Magimel. After a Cesar in 2022 for In his lifetime and another, in 2023, for Pacification: Torment on the Islands (not counting his excursion into the international selection of the Oscars with The Passion of Dodin Bouffant This year, it is his turn to present awards. In a press release, the Deauville American Film Festival announced that the French actor would be at the head of the jury for the official competition.
A first for Benoît Magimel who, at fifty years old, and with the career we know of him, has never gone through the looking glass. However, he has walked the red carpets of the Festivals: that of Cannes, where he received the Best Actor Award for The Pianist in 2001; or that of Cabourg, which awarded him the Golden Swann for Best Actor for his performance in Heads up in 2015.
“Since his debut in front of the camera at the age of thirteen, the self-taught actor has never stopped exploring the diverse and varied territories of French cinema, proving to anyone who might doubt it that he can just as easily alternate between genre films, comedies, mainstream films and auteur films and that there are no boundaries other than those that we build.”we can read in the press release from the Deauville festival.
“With more than sixty films embracing all the diversity and richness of contemporary French cinema and under the direction of the greatest, from Michael Haneke, Claude Chabrol, Emmanuelle Bercot, Guillaume Canet, Quentin Dupieux, to Alice Winocour or Emmanuel Finkiel, Benoît Magimel has become a popular national figure as well as a talent recognized by his peers, a workaholic with a sustained pace, even going so far as to become the only one in the history of the 7th art to win two consecutive Césars for best actor.”
“So today he takes on the role of president, that of the Deauville jury, for a highly symbolic 50th anniversary edition, worthy of his talent and our admiration”conclude the organizers of this gathering.
For the moment, we do not yet know who the other members of the jury chaired by Benoît Magimel will be. The parallel selection of the Revelation will be led by the actress Alice Belaïdisurrounded for the occasion by Emma Benestan, Iris Kaltenbäck, Karidja Toure And Salim Kechiouche.
Last year it was the Laroy of Shane Atkinson who won the Grand Jury Prize chaired by Guillaume Canet.
The 50th edition of the Deauville Festival will be held from September 6 to 15, 2024.
