Big Bang Theory: “I hated wearing raj clothes”

The stylistic confessions of Kunal Nayyar.

Kunal Nayyar still does not digest his character’s wardrobe in The Big Bang Theory.

During a recent appearance on the official podcast of the series, the actor was without filter on Raj Koothrappali’s outfits, often composed of sleeveless vests, XXL collar shirts and zipped sport jackets.

“When I saw the clothes for the first time, I said to myself:” Oh guy, I will have to wear that? “Nayyar tells the host Jessica Radloff.

“I love fashion, honestly, it’s one of my passions. And then I said to myself:” Oh my God, I’m going to have to put these clothes. “

He recognizes that this very unflattering look fits perfectly with the character and his total absence of fashion:

“It is obvious that it is very suitable for Raj. If you look at what I was carrying during the whole series, it is ridiculously ugly, but at the same time perfectly just for the character.”

But for a fashion fan like him, dressing in raj was a real ordeal. “Me, Kunal, having to wear these clothes every day, these cargo pants … It spoiled the thing. I can’t wear clothes anymore – like a vintage gucci sweater or stuff that looks like RAJ sweaters that are in fashion now. I can’t.”

Kunal Nayyar embodied Raj in the 279 episodes of The Big Bang Theory, for 12 seasons, from 2007 to 2019.
