Bill Skarsgård’s Crazy Diet to Become The Crow
“Steak tartare and raw eggs.” It takes pain to give form to Eric Draven.
It’s an impressive physical transformation. Bill Skarsgardwicked sickly John Wick 4, gained a lot of muscle mass to become The Crow. And to achieve this feat, he subjected himself to a very specific diet, very rich in protein, as director Rupert Sanders confided to Variety:
“I would take Bill to restaurants and order for him: steak tartare and raw eggs, basically! Bill went to the gym a lot. He ate very healthy and would put us all to shame when we ate hamburgers and hot dogs and worked late at night…”
Bill Skarsgard confides in the process that he trained for a long time, with a physical coach, to perfect his body: “My trainer and I added a little weight to what I already had, but I didn’t want to be too big either. It was tricky because they wanted The Crow to be muscular, but Eric’s character wasn’t. Financially, we couldn’t afford to spend six months on it, like Raging Bull, so we did a lot of weight training and ate a lot of protein.”
Bill Skarsgard gave of himself, off the sets, but also on the set, during very intense fight scenes: “There were a lot of complex stunts, and Bill did a lot of it himself.” resumes the director.”As you can see, he’s an incredibly physical person. His body in the film is incredible. When he’s in action, he’s a real destruction machine, but he also knows how to play these incredible moments of softness and empathy, which give the action sequences a much stronger emotional connection.“.
Once filming is finished, Bill Skarsgard celebrated the end of his drastic diet… with a beer! The Swede claims to have really enjoyed what he ate during this time, “so I never had the urge to cheat. I couldn’t eat sugar, but I’m not a big sweet tooth… No, the real lapse was allowing myself a good beer… There, I partied after the shoot!“
Still, all these efforts have hardly helped. The Crow : the film flopped beautifully this weekend at the US box office.
