At the beginning of 2022, Bruno Dumont revealed the synopsis completely barred from his new film, The Empire, which he planned to shoot with Adèle Haenel, Virginie Efira and Lily Rose-Depp. The casting has since changed, but the director has kept this concept, which he places in the same universe as Little Quinquin : we find the gendarmes Van der Weyden and Carpentier, played by Bernard Pruvost and Philippe Jore.
