Cannes 2025: Aventura, the packaging comedy by Sophie Letourneur
Presented at the opening of the ACID at the Cannes Film Festival, the new film of the huge and travel director in Italy is a tasty brothel.
Summer, Sardinia, heat, a road trip which takes place mainly in intuition, sandwiches, upset naps, visits, too many luggage in the car, the disconnected GPS, benglades, begging children, unexpected and big fatigue of parents. We are not well there?
With The AventuraSophie Letourneur continues her fascinating work started Trips to Italy, Already built on a principle of transformation of reality into fiction: from recordings of her own vacation, the director replayed these moments of life, accompanied by other actors. And here is Sophie and Jean-Phi (Philippe Katerine, great in stepfather who dreams that she is letting go of the cluster for a nap), this time with their kids, Raoul (Esteban Melero), 3 years old, lover of poops inopinated on the beach, and Claudine (Bérénice Vernet), 11 rods and already tunes of Diva.
We observe them thus register on an iPhone to try to restore their memories (their accuracy, their temporality) of the previous days, and this within the dialogues and the assembly. Have he ate ice on Monday or Tuesday? And this walk was before or after discovering a superb beach? Flashbacks, which seem to have their own will, interrupt them constantly, blurring the tracks between past and present, before Claudine inevitably ends up reminding her family to her archiving task.
From narrative experimentation in its pure state and a happy brothel (dice) organized, with a more worried look than the already very successful Trip to Italy : here points to a general exhaustion of the character of Sophie, too often relegated to the management of kids and confronted with constant noises/cries that they produce. The chaotic structure of the film thus takes the form of his tired mind, while Jean-Phi, ghostly, especially aspires to take advantage of each second of calm that he could offer himself in Loucedé. We were all these two people a bit during a family vacation as los and brilliant, but let’s face it is still funny to look at others to live it.
The Aventura by Sophie Letourneur, with Philippe Katerine, Sophie Letourneur, Bérénice Vernet… 1 h 40. Released on July 12.
