Carrie: Mike Flanagan’s series unveils a terrifying trailer

Prime Video adapts Stephen King’s cult novel with Mike Flanagan.

The platform has unveiled a new trailer for Carrie, the serial reinvention of Stephen King’s famous novel, while confirming a full broadcast of its eight episodes on October 7.

This new adaptation is by Mike Flanagan, master of modern horror to whom we owe The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher. He serves here as screenwriter, director, showrunner and executive producer.

The synopsis promises a “bold and contemporary” rereading of the novel. Always isolated by her authoritarian mother, Carrie White sees her life turned upside down after the sudden death of her father. Confronted for the first time with the unforgiving world of high school, she becomes the target of a new wave of harassment, while strange telekinetic powers begin to manifest.

The young Summer H. Howell, seen notably in Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky, succeeds Sissy Spacek and Chloë Grace Moretz in the role of Carrie. She plays alongside Samantha Sloyan, Mike Flanagan’s faithful collaborator, who plays his mother Margaret White.

The cast also features Siena Agudong (Sue Snell), Matthew Lillard (Principal Grayle), Amber Midthunder, Alison Thornton, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti and Joel Oulette.

The project includes eight episodes. Its development was revealed in October 2024, before Amazon officially ordered the series in April 2025.

Published in 1974, Stephen King’s first novel has already undergone several adaptations. The most famous remains the film by Brian De Palma, released in 1976, which earned Oscar nominations for Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. A sequel followed in 1999, a TV movie in 2002 and a remake with Chloë Grace Moretz in 2013.

With this new version, Mike Flanagan hopes to offer a closer adaptation of the original material, while modernizing the themes of school bullying and exclusion.
