Marvel announces Black Panther 3 and reveals the name of its new Black Panther

A new chapter in Wakanda’s history opened at San Diego Comic-Con.

Here comes Black Panther again!

Marvel found a way to get back to Wakanda.

During his panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige confirmed Black Panther 3 and confirmed a release date of December 15, 2028. In the process, Marvel Studios revealed the identity of the next protector of Wakanda.

It’s David Jonsson, recently revealed in Alien: Romulus and in the adaptation of Walk or die by Stephen King, who will succeed Chadwick Boseman. The actor will play T’Challa II, the son of King T’Challa and Nakia, introduced as a child at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The third part will follow the prince of Wakanda as an adult, as he gradually takes over from his father and in turn inherits the costume of Black Panther.

Marvel also confirmed the return of Ryan Coogler to direct, as well as that of Letitia Wright, who will reprise her role as Shuri, and Winston Duke, still in the skin of M’Baku.

After the death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, died of colon cancer at just 43 years old, Ryan Coogler chose not to replace the actor. In Wakanda Foreverit was Shuri who inherited the Black Panther costume, while the final scene revealed the existence of T’Challa II, the hidden son of T’Challa and Nakia. This character now becomes the new face of the franchise.

The first Black Pantherreleased in 2018, grossed $1.3 billion at the global box office and made history by becoming the first superhero film nominated for an Oscar for best film. He won three statuettes, including those for best costumes and best original music.

Its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverhad raked in $859 million in global revenue in 2022 and garnered five Oscar nominations. Angela Bassett notably became the first actress in the history of the MCU to be nominated for an Oscar for acting.

With David Jonsson in the lead role, Black Panther 3 therefore opens a new chapter in the saga, finally bringing the new generation of Wakanda into the heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
