Chloe Zhao films the Shakespeare in Hamnet: trailer
The Oscar -winning director puts Paul Mescal (Gladiator 2) in the shoes of William Shakespeare.
Paul Mescal remains in period costume. After the success of Gladiator 2the Irish actor slips into the tights of William Shakespeare for Chloé Zhao.
The Oscar -winning director of Nomadland is back, four years after the big failure of Eternal For Marvel.
She returns to a more intimate cinema with Hamnetthat she co-wrote with Maggie O’Farrell according to her novel published in 2020, a film in costumes which revisits the life of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes, after the death of their 11-year-old son, Hamnet.
In the casting, against Mescal, Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter) will play his wife.
Besides, the story will be mainly centered on Agnes. True to the novel by Maggie O’Farrell, Hamnet puts more emphasis on Shakespeare’s wife than on the playwright itself.
They are accompanied in the casting by Joe Alwyn (Bartholomew), from the double named to the Emily Watson Oscars (Breaking The Waves,, Hilary and Jackie) In the role of Mary, Jacobi JUPE (HAMNET), Jack Shalloo (Marcellus) and David Wilmot (John).
Hamnet Will be presented at the Toronto Festival at the start of the school year and will be released in November in the USA. No French date yet.
