Chris Hemsworth as a gentleman burglar in Crime 101: trailer

Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo, Monica Barbaro, Barry Keoghan and Jennifer Jason Leigh are also in the cast of this Heat-style heist film.

In 2023, Amazon won the battle against Netflix for this attractive “package”. The adaptation of Crime 101a short novel by crime writer Don Winslow, with Chris Hemsworth and Pedro Pascal as potential leads.

Two years later, the film is finally revealed in Esquirea few months before its cinema release (February 13, 2026 in the United States). And its trailer has just been posted online.

Pascal is ultimately not in the game, but Hemsworth is there in the main role. He plays Davis, a gentleman burglar who specializes in jewelry theft. He only steals property covered by an insurance company, and never harms anyone.

“He’s a good guy who must do bad things“, summarizes the Marvel star in Esquire. “We really wanted to explore the vulnerability of the character so that the audience could get on his side.”

Crime 101 is a title with a double meaning, referring to the school term (101 could be translated as the ABC in French) but also to the 101 freeway in Los Angeles that Davis takes to escape after his robberies.

Obviously, we immediately think of Heat by Michael Mann. It’s one of the references for the film, just like The Thomas Crown Affair, Ambush Or The Solitaire.

Chris Hemsworth will be surrounded by a great line-up of actors in this thriller directed by Bart Layton (The Imposter, American Animals). Halle Berry plays an insurance broker who will cross paths with Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo the inspector in charge of the investigation, and Barry Keoghan a rival thief with brutal methods.

And that’s not all. Monica Barbaro, Nick Nolte, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Corey Hawkins, Tate Donovan and Iranian star Payman Maadi will also be in the cast.

Crime 101 does not yet have a release date in France.
