City of God: Buscapé is back in the first images of the series
The sequel to Fernando Meirelles’ cult film will be available in August on Max.
The platform Max, launched in the United States in 2020, continues its deployment throughout the world. Launched in France on June 11, the Warner Bros. streaming service. Discovery, which notably includes the HBO catalog, is increasing its announcements, and we learned last May of the arrival of a series following The city of Godthe shocking film by Fernando Meirelles released in 2002.
City of God: The Struggle Continues takes us back to Brazil, in the 2000s, two decades after the events of the feature film adapted from the eponymous novel by Paulo Lins. We find several characters from the film there, starting with Buscapé, now a press photographer covering the violence that still plagues the favelas. A first intense teaser was published by Max Brazil.
Alexandre Rodrigues, the interpreter of Buscapé, is not the only member of the original cast to return in this six-episode series which will be released in August on Max. Lampião (Thiago Martins), Bérénice (Roberta Rodriguesphoto below), Melonhead (Kiko Brands) and Barbantinho (Edson Oliveira) will also be there. Among the new actors: Andréia Horta, Marcos Palmeira, Jefferson Brasil, Eli Ferreira, Luellem de Castro, Otávio Linhares, Rafael Lozano, Leandro Daniel and Luiz Bertazzo.
20 years later, we will find a City of God”torn by conflicts between drug traffickers, police and militia“. Fernando Meirelles is back with the producer’s hat, leaving the direction to Aly Muritiba (The New Bandits).
