Almost a year later, here are the first official images of The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare, a war film retracing the secret missions of British special forces during the Second World War. The film is based on a novel by Damien Lewis about how Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming created a special unit of unscrupulous soldiers.
Although the subject is fundamentally very serious, it is treated here in the form of an action comedy, a bit likeInglourious Basterds. The director of Sherlock Holmes surrounded himself with a large cast for this project: he found Henry Cavillwhich he had already directed in Very Special Agents: Code Uncle (2015), Eiza GonzalezAmbulanceCary Elwes Stranger Thingsor even Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) and Alan Ritchson (Reacher).
On the air of“Another One Bites the Dust”, from Queen, the team is brought together to face Nazis, disrupting their missions by blowing up their military bases, for example. Unsurprisingly, the name of Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, Top Gun: Maverick), is then displayed in production. The message is clear: these ancestors of “Black Ops” are here to rock everything!
The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare does not yet have a French release date, but it will be visible from April 19 in the United States, via Lionsgate. In Europe, it should be broadcast on Prime Video. In the meantime, Cavill will be starring tomorrow in another spy film designed by a British director who loves humor and action: Argyleby Matthew Vaughn.
