Jon Favreau already has ideas for bringing back the Mandalorian and Grogu
The director is already “imagining what the next step will be for them.”
A season 4 for The Mandalorian on Disney+? Or The Mandalorian and Grogu 2 at the cinema?
We don’t yet know how, but we suspect that Baby Yoda will return.
Moreover, Jon Favreau, the director of The Mandalorian and Grogu, already has ideas for the future. The one who is also co-writer of the film confided to Entertainment Weekly that he still saw enormous potential for the adventures of the famous bounty hunter played by Pedro Pascal and his little apprentice sensitive to the Force. According to him, the universe of these characters remains a huge playground:
“I think about it all creatively. To me, it’s like a garden or greenhouse filled with different plots and characters. I see opportunities everywhere, because these stories now have a life of their own.”
Jon Favreau explains that he loves following the evolution of Mando and Grogu and thinking about what could happen to them next:
“I love seeing the progression of these characters and imagining what’s next for them.”
The filmmaker even describes their future as a “canvas to paint“. But above all he reminds us that Dave Filoni, creative director of Lucasfilm, is already thinking about how all the series and all the characters will fit into the big chronology Star Wars.
“Dave thinks a lot about the big story, how all the characters like Ahsoka or Thrawn fit together, and how it all leads into the next era of Star Wars.”
For his part, Favreau claims to have already accumulated “lots of notes and ideas” on the direction this little corner of the galaxy could take Star Wars.
Fans also remember that season 4 of The Mandalorian had once been written by Favreau. This sequel was to prepare the events of season 2 of Ahsoka. But the project was ultimately shelved when Lucasfilm decided to transform the story into a theatrical film, with a more accessible approach for the general public.
“A season 4 would have assumed you’d seen the previous three seasons, and honestly everything else on Disney+.” he explains. “It’s the very nature of a serialized series.”
The move to cinema therefore pushed the team to make the adventure more independent and easier to follow for spectators who do not necessarily know the entire chronology Star Wars.
It now remains to be seen whether this famous season 4 will one day see the light of day, while season 2 of Ahsoka is expected at the beginning of next year.
