Deadpool 3: Ryan Reynolds is surprised by the freedom given by Disney

“The R rating really allowed us to do anything and everything in a world where anything and everything is possible,” says the actor.

The third part of Dead Pool having been announced just after Disney's takeover of Fox, many were worried about a potential sanitization of a character best known for his vulgarity. A prospect that worried fans of the saga, but also the producers of Dead Pooland especially the one who lends him his features: Ryan Reynolds.

In an interview with Fandango reported by Varietythe actor talks about his surprise at the parent company's decision not to purify a fundamentally trashy character. Deadpool and Wolverine will therefore indeed be an R-Rated film (not recommended for under 17s according to the American classification).

“I hope I don't sound condescending, but I'm really proud of them for what they've donedeclares the actor. I think it's a big step forward for them. This adds a whole new color to this kaleidoscopic wheel that is this society and the different people it has always entertained. (..) I was surprised that they let us continue in 'hard R', but I am very grateful for it. There was no other way to do it.”

Indeed, despite Disney's polite image, the takeover forced adaptation, and on both sides. Figuring out how to integrate Fox's heroes (the X-Men) into the Avengers was one of the priorities, but it was certain that the company led by Bob Iger would necessarily have to make concessions to guarantee the integrity of the universes and characters it acquired and maintain the interest of fans.

They certainly would not have accepted that one of the most darkly funny heroes of cinema was censored. Especially when we know that the last time we saw Wolverine, it was also in a rated film “R”, Loganin 2017.

For the gesture to count, the two (anti-)heroes had to be able to enjoy unlimited freedom. Ryan Reynolds sums it up this way:

“The R rating really allowed us to do anything and everything in a world where anything and everything is possible.”

A madness that we actually already find in the trailer for Deadpool 3to be found below. Deadpool and Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 24.
