Does the world of cinema still want to work with Luc Besson? “It’s not my problem,” he said
Luc Besson speaks again as his new feature film, DogMan, is presented at the Venice Film Festival and the Deauville Festival.
The new film of Luc Besson, DogMan, is released in French theaters on September 27. The director’s latest feature film, Annadates back to 2019. Before this Annaafter the release of his ambitious science fiction film Valerian and the City of a Thousand PlanetsLuc Besson was accused in May 2018 by the actress Sand Van Roy rape and sexual violence. In 2021, the director benefited from a dismissal confirmed on appeal in 2022. After his cassation appeal was rejected last June, Sand Van Roy announced that he was going to the European Court of Human Rights.
Before the presentation of DogMan at the Venice and Deauville Festivals, the American magazine Variety was able to meet Luc Bessonand asked him how this accusation may have impacted his career, and if the industry still wanted to work with him. “It’s not my problem”, replied Besson.
“The only rule in the industry is that if you have a good project, people will want to be part of it.”he explains.” TF1 and Canal+ took 24 hours to accept the project DogMan. It works like that. The rest I don’t control.”
“In recent years I have tried to concentrate on my work”he still declares. “I consider myself an artist, and the most important thing for me is to write good scripts, like DogMan. I want to write better scripts, because I only have a few films left to make, and in twenty years, the only things left will be films.”
