Donald Glover’s Lando series will finally be a movie
“I would love to play him again. It’s fun to play him. But we have to find the right way to do it.”
Five years after the flop of Solo – A Star Wars Story, there is still talk of making a new spin-off from this Disney blockbuster. The Lando Calrissian of Donald Glover was acclaimed by fans of the saga, and since its release there has been talk of devoting a TV series to it.
We learned this summer that the actor himself was writing a screenplay with his brother, Stephen, but that Justin Siemen (the creator of Dear White Peoplewho has just filmed The Haunted Mansion for the studio) was no longer there. We thought it would be a show for Disney+, but Stephen Glover just revealed during the podcast Pablo Torres Finds Out that it would ultimately be a film.
“It won’t be a show…. The idea now is to make a feature film out of it, explains the brother of the actor who succeeded Billy Dee Williams in this role. Well, with the strike, that means we just exchanged some information over the phone.”
Donald Glover fears being digitally resurrected in future Star Wars films
In other words, the project is not yet very advanced, even if Glover confirms that he is indeed writing a story dedicated to Lando with his brother. Last April, here is what Donald said about himself to GQ : “We talk about it yes, but that’s all I can tell you without Kathleen Kennedy (the president of Lucasfilm) don’t stalk me. Lando is charm personified. It’s a kind of marginal that we don’t do anymore. It’s hard to be a smooth talker these days. What is the limit that should not be exceeded? How far can he go without putting himself in danger?
Glover adds that he will only do it if he finds the right way to do it justice: “I would love to play Lando again. It’s fun to play him. But we have to find the right way to do it. Time is precious. The last two years, with this pandemic shit, people have taken aware of this. We have all realized that our time has value. We have so little of it. I am not interested in the idea of doing anything that would waste my time. Nor just for a check. I prefer to spend time with people I love. So a project has to be the right one, I have to believe in it. And Lando is definitely someone I’d like to hang out with.”
