Evangeline Lilly suffers brain damage after accident in Hawaii
“Almost all areas of my brain are functioning at reduced capacity,” the Lost and Marvel Universe actress announced today on Instagram.
Star of Lostand more recently from the Marvel Universe where she plays the Waspalongside Ant-Man, Evangeline Lily has revealed she suffered brain damage following a serious accident last May in Hawaii. The 46-year-old actress said she lost consciousness on a beach before falling violently and hitting her head on a rock.
In a video posted on Instagram on January 1, 2026, the actress gave worrying news about her state of health. “Almost all areas of my brain are functioning at reduced capacity”she confides, specifying that medical examinations confirmed head trauma.
“I do have brain damage from this injury, and possibly other factors.”
Lucid about the seriousness of the situation, Evangeline Lily explains that her recovery will require long and demanding work. “My role now is to figure out exactly what’s going on with the doctors, then do the hard work necessary to fix it.”she said, not without a touch of weariness. But the actress assumes: “It’s hard, but it’s okay.”
Paradoxically, this accident forced her to slow down. She confides that this cognitive decline pushed her to slow down after years of struggling in Hollywood: “It helped me slow down and end 2025 in a more relaxing way.”she explains, evoking “the quietest Christmas” she has known since the birth of her children, fourteen years ago…”
The actress concludes on a decidedly optimistic note, saying “Immensely grateful” to still be able to “live one more day and one more year on this magnificent living planet.”
Let us clarify that Evangeline Lilly is not officially announced in the casting of Avengers: Doomsday. Fans were hoping to see her return briefly in the role of Hope van Dyne alongside Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) who will be there. But this will not be the case a priori.
