Excluded – James Gunn: “I love Tarantino but we have a very different superman understanding”
The director of the new Superman, on the cover of first, explains why he does not agree with Kill Bill: Volume 2.
While Superman Prepares to go out in French theaters on July 9, First Consequently devotes its blanket to James Gunn’s blockbuster, which aims to relaunch DC Comics adaptations to the cinema for the next decade. A few weeks ago, we were talking by zooming to the director, to whom we asked if the famous replica of David Carradine in Kill Bill: Volume 2 (” Superman did not become Superman. He was born Superman (…) His alter ego is Clark Kent. ) Get closer to his own vision of the character.
“” I will be very honest: I do not agree with that. I love Quentin Tarantino, I love his films, but I think he has an understanding of Superman and superheroes very different from mine “Replied Gunn.
“” It seems false to say that Superman was born Superman and that Clark Kent is his alter ego. Clark is its vulnerable side. A big clumsy – and I even think that he adds a little. You have to see it as a kind of disguise, but just as much as its blue, red and yellow costume is. The only ones who really understand this being are those who know both Superman and Clark Kent. Because they are fundamentally these two people. »»
