The Minions have lost none of their power of attraction and are off to an excellent start in France.

Minions and monsters attracted 173,000 spectators this Wednesday in French cinemas, an average of 49 admissions per screening.

Directed by Frenchman Pierre Coffin, creator of the universe Despicable Methis third part starts slightly better than Toy Story 5which brought together 167,000 spectators on its first day last week.

The score, however, remains lower than that of Despicable Me 4the previous film in the franchise, which opened to 208,000 admissions in 2024, and above all very far from Minions 2: Once upon a time Gru. In 2022, the film opened with an impressive total of 510,000 spectators, a figure inflated by the Cinema Festival, which was already being held on the day of its release. This time again, the yellow creatures will be able to count on the pricing operation, which will begin on their first Sunday of operation and should offer them a serious boost at the end of the week. Minions 2 had finished at 3.9 million entries.

With 173,000 entries, Minions and monsters also achieves the second best start of the year for an animated film in France, behind Super Mario Galaxy which had 315,000 admissions in 1 day… already produced by the Illumination studio.

Behind the expected hit, we find the two big French productions of the week.

The Whims of the Child King achieved an encouraging launch with 21,000 tickets sold (including previews). Michel Leclerc’s new film starts better than The mix of genreswhich started with 12,500 admissions last year before ending its career with around 145,000 spectators. This time, the filmmaker brings together Franck Dubosc, as D’Artagnan, and Artus, as Cyrano, in a flamboyant historical fiction which hopes to aim much higher. Here too, the Cinema Festival could play a determining role in establishing the film over time.

Finally, another popular tandem but a more timid start for Perfect(s): Family scams. The comedy by Audrey Fleurot and Ramzy Bedia only attracted 15,000 spectators (including AVP) after its first day.

A modest start for Ludovic Bernard’s new film, including the previous feature, Here and therehad finally ended its career at 335,000 admissions.
