Netflix is ​​starting to heat up the sauce around its version of Narnia.

The new film directed by Greta Gerwig has just revealed its logo, which largely highlights the name of the filmmaker, while abandoning the mention “The Chronicles of” present in the title of the franchise. Along the way, we discover an official image of the director in the middle of filming, in a British setting from the 1900s.

Viewers will be able to experience Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew in theaters around the world starting February 12, 2027, with previews exclusively in IMAX starting February 10. The film will then be available on Netflix on April 2, 2027. We do not yet know if the film will be entitled to a showing, even fleeting, in theaters in France (media chronology obliges).

For Greta Gerwig, this project is particularly personal. The director of Barbie and Doctor March’s Daughters has known CS Lewis’ novel since childhood.

“I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with this wonderfully improbable yet absolutely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion bringing the world of Narnia to life through his song,” she explains. “I didn’t know I would become a filmmaker, but the idea of a universe built around music has always lived within me. It’s a huge honor to have been chosen to bring it to life. Thanks to The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis, I believed in magic, hidden worlds and adventure. I believed that any place could be enchanted and that anyone could be transported into an epic. This wonder was accessible to everyone, even ordinary people like me… It transformed me.

The Magician’s Nephew is the first film to adapt this novel by CS Lewis, published in 1955. The story notably tells the creation of Narnia, well before the events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The film brings together a new generation of actors around David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell, with Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep.

On the music side, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt will compose the soundtrack, having already collaborated with Gerwig on Barbie. The filmmaker also wrote the screenplay and produced the film alongside Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal and Vincent Sieber-Smith.

After the three films made between 2005 and 2010, this new adaptation marks the return of Narnia to our screens.
