First trailer for Sakamoto Days: the live-action film arrives in April 2026
The animated series which is a hit on Netflix is getting a live action version. A highly anticipated Japanese feature film which is already being revealed.
The live adaptation of the hit anime Sakamoto Days has already revealed its first images – as well as its release date.
Three months after the official announcement, Netflix and the production lift the veil with a first teaser and confirm the arrival of the film in spring 2026. A first poster centered on Taro Sakamoto had already been shared during the announcement.
Sakamoto Days will be released in Japan on April 29, 2026. Nothing official, however, for international markets. The film is expected, obviously, on Netflix. Another important detail: the project will be divided into two parts.
The 30-second teaser already sets the tone. We first see a young Sakamoto, sharp and elegant, in full demonstration of shooting and stunts. Then the montage switches to the older, plump and retired Sakamoto, before showing him delivering a monumental kick to Shin Asakura, who has come to disturb the tranquility of his konbini.
A few nervous action shots of Asakura follow, then a lighter moment where Sakamoto and his family enjoy a roller coaster ride. The teaser ends with a new acrobatic jump from the hero, followed by a signature kick.
Ren Meguro (of Snow Man) plays Taro Sakamoto. He is surrounded by Fumiya Takahashi (Shin Asakura), Aya Ueto (Aoi, Sakamoto’s wife) and Miyu Yoshimoto (Hana, their daughter).
The film – like the anime – adapts the manga by Yuto Suzuki. At the helm, we find Yuichi Fukuda, used to live-action (Gintama), who directs and writes the screenplay, while the action scenes are provided by Keiya Tabuchi (Attack on Titan in live-action).
Sakamoto Days tells the story of a former hitman who returns to duty to protect his family… but must respect his wife’s strict rule: no murder, no matter what. Result: a hero who hits hard, but clean.
