For the first time in 5 years, Jim Carrey will do something other than Sonic
The actor is in talks to play the lead in the live-action Jetsons film.
It has been very, very rare for a decade. Jim Carrey did Kiddingthe series produced by Michel Gondry, at the end of the 2010s. And in recent years, we have only seen him in the skin of Dr. Robotnik, supporting role in the films Sonic. Other than that, not much…
But Jim Carrey is finally preparing to return to the front of the stage. He is in discussions with Warner Bros. to play the leading role in the film The Jetsonslive action adaptation of the famous futuristic cartoon from the 1960s (but only broadcast here in the 1990s in the show Hanna Barbera of France 2).
The project is expected to be helmed by Colin Trevorrow, the director of Jurassic World Dominionwho would also co-write the screenplay with Joe Epstein. No details have yet filtered out on the plot, but the film would mark the first “flesh and blood” version of the Jetsonafter several aborted attempts over the decades (including a computer-generated image project led by Robert Rodriguez in 2007).
Created in 1962, the animated series imagined a typical American family – George and Jane Jetson, their children Judy and Elroy, and their dog Astro – living in Orbit City, a retro-futuristic metropolis populated by domestic robots, flying cars and video conferencing screens… in other words, the future dreamed of yesterday, not quite come true.
A slightly crazy Hanna-Barbera role that would fit Jim Carrey like a glove, while the 62-year-old American actor is preparing to receive an honorary César for his entire career.
