Gremlins 3 will be released in theaters in 2027, with Steven Spielberg returning!
Warner Bros. announces that it has given the green light for the sequel, 40 years later. Chris Columbus will direct.
Cinema’s most uncontrollable creatures will officially make their return.
Warner Bros. formalized the arrival of Gremlins 3 for an exit scheduled for November 2027. An announcement made by David Zaslav during a conference call with investors. And this return is not trivial: he confides in passing that Steven Spielberg is back as executive producer, as for the first two opuses directed by Joe Dante. This time, it’s Chris Columbus — screenwriter of the first Gremlins and director of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone — who will direct and produce this new chapter. We know he’s been working on a script for ages.
For the moment, no information on the casting or the plot. Warner keeps everything under lock and key. The two heroes of the era, Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, are in their sixties. If we imagine a cameo, we assume that new faces will carry this sequel.
Quick reminder: the original film, released in 1984, exploded at the box office with $212 million worldwide, instantly becoming cult (and contributing to the invention of the PG-13 rating in the United States). Its sequel, Gremlins 2 (1990), more crazy and meta, only grossed $50 million, killing the franchise. But she made her comeback in recent years as a cartoon, on HBO Max, in a stylish cartoon dedicated to Gizmo.
With Gremlins 3Warner is relaunching the deadly creatures, and wants to hit hard after an already record year. Zaslav did not hide the studio’s ambition: “We are No. 1 at the global box office this year, the only studio to have exceeded $4 billion. And we do it with original films and iconic franchises”he said. Before citing successes like Superman, Weapons Or The Conjuring: Last Rites. This third part could therefore be one of the cinema events of 2027.
