Grey's Anatomy will lose a new doctor next year
Dr. Levi Schmitt will hang up his coat in Seattle during the upcoming season 21… to make room on the medical series' payroll.
It's become a habit among the Gray Sloan Memorial medical team: doctors come and go. The next to leave the team Grey's Anatomy will be Jake Borelli. The actor who has played Dr. Levi Schmitt for 7 years will be leaving next season. Season 21 of Grey's Anatomy was recently commissioned by ABC.
This departure would be due to budget cuts requested by the studio at the time of renewal. Technically, Dr. Levi will still be there when the series resumes, but the actor is in negotiations to return for several episodes to wrap up his character's story at the start of season 21.
A departure which could make it possible to keep the old ones, Chandra Wilson (Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard), as well as Kevin McKidd. (Owen), Kim Raver (Teddy), Caterina Scorsone (Amelia) and Camilla Luddington (Jo), whose contracts also expired this spring. It will therefore be necessary for production to find money to renew them and the departure of Jake Borelli should free up space in the payroll.
It remains to be seen how Dr. Levi Schmitt will leave, he who has been there since season 14. Will he be entitled to a romantic farewell, leaving to find orthopedic surgeon Nico Kim?
Grey's Anatomy will end its 20th season on Thursday, May 30 in the United States on ABC.
