Gwyneth Paltrow reacts to Robert Downey Jr.’s return to Marvel: “I don’t understand…”
The actress who plays Pepper Potts is a little lost when faced with Kevin Feige’s re-hiring of the actor, to now play Doctor Doom, and no longer her lover Tony Stark.
If Gwyneth Paltrow arrived at the same time as Robert Downey Jr. at Marvel, in the shoes of his “love interest” Pepper Potts, the actress is much less comfortable than him with the superhero universe. Getting mixed up with all the filming of Kevin Feige’s blockbusters, she for example revealed in the press that she had forgotten that she had played in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
“I was lost! There are so many of these interconnected Marvel movies and I thought it was a movie Avengers“, she tried to defend herself in 2019, shortly after being shocked when a journalist spoke to her from the role of Samuel L. Jackson in this same saga, and that she had to admit that she had forgotten that he was part of the team… even though he is still the boss of SHIELD, and therefore of the Avengers.
Same again this weekend, following Robert Downey Jr.’s thunderous announcement at Comic-Con 2024. Taking to the Marvel panel stage hidden in a Doctor Doom costume, the 59-year-old actor revealed to a hysterical crowd that he had officially signed on for return to the MCUbut more to embody Tony Stark/Iron Man. No, he will be the big baddie of phase 6, and in particular ofAvengers Doomsdayexpected in May 2025 in theaters. He will face the new Fantastic 4 played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
“New mask, same stain”commented the comedian by sharing photos and a video of the event, with the famous accessory of this essential bad guy from comics. “I don’t understand, are you the bad guy now?”posted his playing partner in response to this message on Instagram, causing hilarity among RDJ’s subscribers.
The Russo brothers, who directed Captain America: Civil War, Avengers Infinity War And Endgame, will also be back to stage Avengers Doomsday And Secret Warsscheduled for May 2027 in theaters. They also reacted to this post by writing: “We told you green was your color!”
“New mask, same task.”
