Harry Potter Series Moves From Max to HBO
Concretely, what will this change for broadcasting?
Strategy change underway at Warner Bros. The next series Harry Potter, initially announced for the Max platform, will ultimately come under the HBO banner. What does that mean in practice?
That the series Harry Potter will be branded HBO Original, after the American pay channel HBO. Harry Potter will not be the only series in this case: Welcome to Derrythe prequel to Thatalso moves from Max to HBO.
HBO boss Casey Bloys explains the change: “Initially, it seemed smart to us to use Warner Bros. licensed content as a demarcation between HBO and Max. But when we started producing these series, we used the same methods, the same type of process that we used to develop our regular HBO series Suddenly, the idea of drawing a line began to seem unnecessary. Why are we doing this just what they really are: HBO series?
In fact, this should not change anything in the broadcast: the series Harry Potter And Welcome to Derry will certainly be broadcast on Max at the same time as on HBO (in France, as HBO does not exist, the question will not even arise).
We imagine that the other Max series under development – The Penguin And Dune: Prophecy in particular – will also be rebranded HBO. For now, they are still Max Originals series, but we understand that the brand is destined to disappear purely and simply.
