Historic Sinners at the 2026 Oscars: all the nominations
Ryan Coogler’s vampire film did better than Titanic and La La Land by landing 16 nominations. He will be the big favorite of the evening with Une Bataille après l’autre and Hamnet.
Quite a symbol. As the historic Hollywood studio prepares to be bought by a streaming platform (Netflix), Warner Bros. sets a record with the 2026 Oscar nominations.
Unveiled this Thursday afternoon, the list offers 30 citations to Warner, a record equaled after the 30 nominations obtained at the 2005 Oscars (for Million Dollar Baby And Aviator among others). But the major event remains Sinnersa vampire film as daring as it is bloody by Ryan Coogler, which achieves a historic feat with 16 nominations. No film had ever exceeded the 14 nominations mark until then: Eve (1951), Titanic (1998) and La La Land (2017).
Sinners thus established itself as the great favorite of the evening, just like Warner Bros., omnipresent. The studio also dominates thanks to the darling of the 2025 cinema year, One battle after another by Paul Thomas Anderson, who follows with 13 nominations.
Neon is the other big winner on this list. The independent company has the best year in its history at the Oscars, with 16 nominations in total, driven by two foreign language films: The Secret Agent (Brazil) and Sentimental value (Norway). His previous record dates back to the 2020 Oscars, at the time of Parasite (8 cumulative nominations).
Moreover, the star of The Secret AgentWagner Moura, becomes the first Brazilian actor nominated for an Oscar for best actor. In this category he will face Leonardo DiCaprio, still favorite for One battle after anotherbut also Timothée Chalamet, nominated for Marty Supreme. The latter becomes on this occasion the youngest actor to accumulate three nominations for Best Actor (after Call Me by Your Name in 2017, at just 22 years old, and A Simple Stranger last year).
In the rest of the nominations, Hamnet by Chloé Zhao advances in ambush. Crowned at the Golden Globes, the drama inspired by the tragic story of William Shakespeare landed 7 nominations, in major categories, and could well spoil the party for Warner Bros.
On the tricolor side, we can highlight the expected presence of the French representative, A Simple Accidentby Iranian director Jafar Panahi, for the statuette for Best International Film. The Cannes Palme d’Or will not be favorite against Sentimental value Or The Secret Agent. Same observation for the two representatives from France in the Best Animated Film category, Arco And Amélie or the metaphysics of tubes are there, but risk suffering in the face of the juggernaut K-Pop Demon Huntersalready crowned at the Golden Globes. Finally, Alexandre Desplat lands his 12th Oscar nomination (the first since 2020) for Frankenstein by Guillermo del Toro. He has won the statuette twice in the past, for The Grand Budapest Hotel And The Shape of Water.
The 2026 Oscars ceremony will be broadcast on March 15, in France on Disney Plus, during the night from Sunday to Monday. Conan O’Brien will host for the second year in a row.
