House of the Dragon, season 2: Westeros on the brink of chaos in the trailer for episode 5
After the many losses, questions of succession are swarming in King’s Landing.
The dragons have finally danced. While this season 2 was far from achieving scores as good as those achieved for its first season, episode 4 (to be seen in France on Max) brought together 8.1 million viewers in the United States, the most watched episode of this entire season 2 of House of the Dragon. So what happens next?
Warning, spoilers!
While Daemon is still plagued by strange hallucinations in Harrenhaal, the first battle of the Dance of Dragons has left both sides in flames. Thanks to Ser Criston Cole’s plan, the Greens win a decisive victory. On the back of Vhagar, Aemond sets a trap for Rhaenys, The Queen Who Never Was. She and her dragon die under the blow, while Aegon II and Sunfire, who came to lend a hand, take a dizzying fall from which we know the outcome: dead? alive? or simply injured? Alicent asks herself the question in the trailer (below) for episode 5.
In King’s Landing, Meleys’ head is dragged like a trophy by the victorious warriors. Proof of the king’s omnipotence. But behind this parade, the message sent can be interpreted differently by the people: if this dragon has fallen, which these creatures are not as invincible as the Targaryens want them to believe. They too can be killed.
The capital seems to be the scene of an uprising and just like in the book Fire and Bloodthe teaser suggests that its gates are closed, trapping the population behind its walls.
At the heart of this trailer is the uncertain fate of King Aegon, transported in a fully enclosed litter that emerges. Apparently dying, his succession is put on the table. In the front row: Alicent, his mother, pushed aside, and Aemond. Will the regicide accede to the throne? Readers already know the answer to this question.
On the Black side, Jacearys is at the Twins – seat of House Frey in the certain hope of rallying more nobles to the cause of his mother, weakened by the loss of an ally and her dragon. The cards are reshuffled, especially since Daemon is still suffering from hallucinations “You were made to wear the crown…” someone whispers to him. Will this call his loyalty into question?
“There is more than one way to wage war” will we see in episode 5 of House of the Dragonseason 2, broadcast next Monday on Max.
