“It’s a studio directive”: Alexandre Astier reacts to the postponement of Kaamelott
“I think we are dealing with competition management,” explains the director after part 2 of the second part was postponed for several months.
On sale for The Corset by Louis Clichy, Alexandre Astier commented for the first time on the delay in the release of Kaamelott – Second part: Part 2initially scheduled for November 11 and postponed to March 10, 2027, during an interview for France 3 Rhône Alpes.
The director and actor of King Arthur explains that he was not at the origin of this decision. And he assures that it is not to review the editing of the film, even if he recognizes taking the opportunity to refine a few details:
“Since it’s coming out a little later, I’m still working a little bit. No, but it’s done, the music is recorded… I would have liked it to come out much closer, I said so. I found that one year was a long time. Now, the difference between a year and a year and a few months doesn’t bother me too much.”
Last October, during the promotion of part 1 of Kaamelott – Second partAlexandre Astier explained to First that he would have preferred another calendar:
“The release date of KV2 part 2 is not the one I would have wanted, let’s be very clear. I wanted there to be around four or five months between the two films, but I shout enough on certain subjects not to shout on certain others – like how to sell a film or deciding when it will be released.”
Astier today assures that he understands the decision of SND, the film’s distributor, which reviewed its commercial strategy after the mixed results of KV2 part 1which has just exceeded one million entries, compared to 2.6 million for Kaamelott – First Part :
“It is postponed until March. It’s really a studio directive. I think we are dealing with competition management. I think there was the Printemps du cinéma at that time. I understand that life is hard in the theaters and that you have to find a place to go.”
As for the plot of the next film, he remains very evasive for the moment: “All these people went on a quest, and all these people are now going to refocus. It’s a round trip. That’s why it’s in two parts.”
