Jacques Audiard thanked Karla Sofía Gascón by receiving the Bafta
By receiving the trophy for the best film in a foreign language, Jacques Audiard has not forgotten her main actress, in turmoil for a month.
New (little) scene in Drama Emilia. Sunday February 16, Emilia Perez won two BAFTA trophies (English Oscars): that of the best actress in a supporting role for Zoe Saldaña, and that of the best film in a foreign language (“Not in English Language”). The director Jacques Audiard came on stage to receive the trophy from the hands of Adam Scott (Severance), and took the opportunity to thank, among other people, his star, Karla Sofía Gascón.
“Through cinema, we weave stories that try to push the limits a little, to question some conventions, even if that sometimes requires us to break certain rules along the way”said the director. “I would like to thank this evening the wonderful talents that helped me create, and the producers who believed in us”. Audiard thanked Netflix “For their incredible support”.
“And above all thank you to all the wonderful artists who gave life to this film, who are there this evening, my dear Zoe, my dear Selena (Gomez), Virginie, Juliette, Camille, Clément, Julia … but also thank you to you Also, Karla Sofia, that I kiss.
This is the entire speech (and in French, since Jacques was translated on stage live):

It is not trivial, and it is part of the drama Emilia Perez : the main actress, Karla Sofía Gascón, withdrew from the trophy race After the revelation of ancient tweets where she hung up on the Muslims, the Jews or George Floyd. In early February, Jacques Audiard had taken her distance from her actressdeclaring to the Deadline site: “I didn’t tell her about it and I don’t want to do it. She is in a self -destructive approach in which I cannot interfere, and I really don’t understand why she continues.”
All this seriously damaged the chances of Emilia Péréz at the 2025 Oscars, where the film collected no less than 12 appointments (the same number as to the César). The film has already won the jury prize and the female interpretation prize for the whole casting at the Cannes Film Festival, thus three Golden Globes: Best musical /comedy film, Best Foreign Language Movie Best Actress in a supporting role.
Karla Sofia Gascon moves away from the guava and the Oscars “for Jacques, for the cast …”
The César will take place on February 28, and the Oscars just after, on the night of March 2 to 3.
