Jude Law, terrifying Henry VIII in the Queen’s Game trailer
The English sovereign, who inspired the legend of Bluebeard, faces his last wife, played by Alicia Vikander.
While we wait for season 2 of Wolf Hallthe Brazilian filmmaker, Karim Aïnouz, in turn looks at the case of Henry VIII. More exactly, The Queen’s Game will focus on the sixth (!) and final marriage of the English sovereign. We are in the middle of the 16th century and Catherine Parr is trying “with the help of his ladies in waiting, to foil the traps set for him by the bishop, the court and the king…”
Because Henry VIII did not inspire the legend Blue Beard for nothing. His five previous wives were either repudiated or beheaded (only one having died following illness). So will Catherine be able to survive this terrifying sovereign who has completely seceded from the Catholic Church in order to be able to change wives as he pleases?
It’s a Jude Law unrecognizable who will put himself in the shoes of old Henry VIII whileAlicia Vikander will play Catherine Parr.
Eddie Marsan, Sam Riley, Simon Russell Beale complete the cast.
The Queen’s Game – presented in competition at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival – will be released on March 27, 2024 in France in cinemas.
