Kate Winslet announces season 2 of Mare of Easttown!
The British actress even suggests filming for 2027.
We thought Mare was retired.
Creator Brad Ingelsby had also followed up with another thriller for HBO, Task, launched last fall with Mark Ruffalo in the lead – and already renewed for a season 2. But against all odds, there should be a season 2 of Mare of Easttown.
Five years after making an impression as detective Mare Sheehan, Kate Winslet puts a coin back into the machine. The British actress says there is a “high probability” that a season 2 of Mare of Easttown will see the light of day,
The series was originally thought of as a one-off mini-series — “it was finished, wrapped up, finished,” explains Kate Winslet — but the idea of a second season came back to the table a few months ago:
“There have been real discussions around a possible timeline. And I think we’re probably going to do it, and this is the first time I’ve really felt like that…”
On the HBO side, no official confirmation yet.
But the star goes further and specifies that the filming of this season 2 “would not take place this year, but there is a good chance that it will take place in 2027”.
Quite a twist for Mare of Easttown. Previously, Kate Winslet confided that she would only consider a return to Mare if “the story was too good to refuse, because the filming of ‘Mare’ was very trying for all of us… We will only do it again if the story is strong enough…” You have to believe that Brad Ingelsby was able to convince her.
Aired in 2021, Mare of Easttown followed an investigator in a small town in Pennsylvania confronted with the murder of a young mother. The seven-episode miniseries met with immense critical and public success, garnering 16 Emmy Award nominations. Kate Winslet, Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters all walked away with a statuette. Despite this, the series had always been presented – and rewarded – as a “limited series”.
