Rapunzel’s evil live-action ‘mother’ has already been found
It is Kathryn Hahn, seen in particular in the skin of Agatha Harkness at Marvel, who should play the jailer of the princess with the golden hair.
Disney is moving quickly on its Rapunzel in real shots.
Kathryn Hahn is in talks to play Mother Gothel, the film’s main antagonist, the stepmother who keeps the golden-haired girl captive in her doorless tower.
In the 2010 animated classic, Mother Gothel posed as an ultra-protective mother in order to better exploit Rapunzel’s magical hair, capable of preserving her youth and beauty. An outstanding manipulative role, tailor-made for the actress.
If negotiations are successful, Kathryn Hahn will join Teagan Croft, announced in the role of Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim, who will lend his features to Flynn Rider. The trio would thus form the heart of the casting of this highly anticipated remake.
Kathryn Hahn is going through a particularly prosperous period. After Agatha All Along on Disney+, spin-off of WandaVision where she played the witch Agatha Harkness, she left her mark in the Apple series The Studiowhere she plays a formidable marketing manager. Soon, we will find her in Maddenthe John Madden biopic by David O. Russell, alongside Christian Bale and Nicolas Cage.
The production of the live film is entrusted to Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman), with Kristin Burr (Cruella, Freakier Friday) to production. The screenplay is by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Filming is expected to begin later this year.
Released in 2010, Rapunzel had grossed nearly $600 million at the worldwide box office. The original film featured Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the voice cast. Donna Murphy lent her voice to Mother Gothel.
